Tony Hawk: Ride features a brand new skateboard-shaped wireless videogame controller that players stand on to interact with the game environment. Inspired by pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, the controller is a direct manifestation of his desire to accurately recreate the skating experience for everyone.

Using a combination of accelerometers and motion sensors, the intuitive controller allows players to physically control the action. By performing various movements and gestures on the board they directly translate into amazing tricks in the game. Without complex button combinations or analog sticks, gamers can literally step on the board and immediately play. To detect the stance and movements of the rider, onboard accelerometers transmit lean, tilt and general attitude controls to the game console. Infrared sensors around the perimeter of the deck detect the proximity of the player’s hands and feet. This means that users do not have to learn complicated button commands to control their game avatar, they just hop on the deck and RIDE.

Attention to detail was paid to both the colors and graphics on the deck controller as well as the packaging to create a visual identity that resonates from the box to the controller. The design intent woven throughout all the touch points of RIDE is an infusion of authentic details that are evocative of skating culture, approachable by parents and teens, and stand out on the retail shelves.

Tony Hawk: Ride delivers something bordering on an actual simulation, requiring some actual balance and coordination reminiscent of actual skateboarding rather than the usual button pushing. RIDE offers a totally new, fun, and refreshing way to play video games, The skateboard controller will redefine sports games by offering players a true skateboarding experience, hands-free, playing with friends and family at home or in a variety of different locations.<<
